Poshan Panchayat: National Conference on Nutrition

The national conference of the Poshan Panchayat, run by SHARP under the School Health Annual Report Programme, held at Vivanta by Taj, Surajkund, under the line Recognising needs | Discussing ideas | Celebrating success.

Dr Mitra Basu Chhillar sat on the panel — billed on the programme in his earlier role as Senior Scientist, DRDO, Government of India.

The discussion took up nutrition across the whole life course rather than after birth alone: nutrition during pregnancy, and before it, where the nutritional status of a girl carries forward into the health of a child she has not yet had. It is the same argument the Academy makes in a different register — that the measurable change usually precedes the diagnosis by years, and that the useful question is what was already happening upstream.
